The festival begins at night under a full moon in the sky. People from all walks of life take their Krathong in nearby rivers. After lighting candles and incense and make a wish, krathongs gently placed in the water and leave off until they disappear from view.
Today, Loi Krathong festival is held in the majority Thai provinces. Particular in Chiang Mai, Sukhothai it has krathong parade, contestation of making krathongs and Noppamas beauty pageant.
Chiang Mai “Yee Peng” Loi Krathong Festival
“Yee Peng” “Yee” means the 2nd lunar month and Peng means Full Moon, Yee Peng Festival is the celebration
during the full moon night in the 2nd lunar month.
