Loi Krathong

 Loi KrathongLoi Krathong festival is a Thai tradition which has been carried out long ago. Loi Krathong has been held since the middle of the eleventh to the middle of the twelfth lunar month, which is a great flood season, especially in the night of the full moon of the twelfth lunar month. When the moon shines in the night, it is clear rivers. It is a beautiful landscape that is suitable for floating krathong.

The festival begins at night under a full moon in the sky. People from all walks of life take their Krathong in nearby rivers. After lighting candles and incense and make a wish, krathongs gently placed in the water and leave off until they disappear from view.
Today, Loi Krathong festival is held in the majority Thai provinces. Particular in Chiang Mai, Sukhothai it has krathong parade, contestation of making krathongs and  Noppamas beauty pageant.

Chiang Mai “Yee Peng” Loi Krathong Festival
“Yee Peng” “Yee” means the 2nd lunar month and Peng means Full Moon, Yee Peng Festival is the celebration Yee Pengduring the full moon night in the 2nd lunar month.
